Chemistry is a great subject if you love practicals and experiments and watching chemical reactions close-up. It can be fun and exciting. It is a subject which needs mathematical skills, which I enjoy using, and it has helped me to become a good problem solver. It’s an academic science which is recognised by the top universities and the most competitive university courses as it demonstrates a student has real potential in almost any field of study or career. Chemistry A Level gives you a lot of options and choices for the future.
I studied three Science A Levels and I was unsure what I wanted to do after Sixth Form but I wanted to keep my options open by choosing science A Levels; this meant I could consider careers in medical sciences, engineering, finance, and accounting or even law, which is what I opted for in the end. I started going to Debate Club at Blue Coat and in my role as a Senior Student I was asked to speak in front of other students, staff and the public more often. I realised I enjoyed debating and the pressure of formulating an argument on the spot. I also really enjoyed public speaking. I was able to obtain an internship at a barrister’s chamber in Manchester over the summer at the end of Year 12. After completing my internship, I knew I wanted to be a lawyer.
Chemistry is one of the most valuable A Levels you can study in terms of courses and careers it opens up for your future. I would encourage anyone who enjoys practicals, who likes to see the occasional explosion in the lab, and is confident with Mathematics, to study Chemistry.
