I studied Textiles because I want to work in the fashion industry. I developed my design skills and my understanding of fabrics through working on the A Level. I also studied Business and Economics and my ambition is to have my own fashion business one day. My goal is to have my own fashion house creating designs for wedding dresses and high-end fashion clothes.
Universities are all different when it comes to what they want from a student who is thinking of studying Fashion Design. The most important requirement however is your portfolio to demonstrate your skill and creativity. You need to start your portfolio early in Year 12 and make sure you keep it up to date. You are judged mostly on the quality and creativity of your portfolio when you apply. Some universities also want you to write an essay about your ideas and interest in the subject. But they all want your portfolio – that’s the main thing you’ve got to get right.
Textiles is not an easy option; there is no such thing as an easy A Level! It is a subject which rewards you if you are creative, passionate, and hardworking and you’re keen to work in fashion and design.
