I was very interested in social sciences generally, so I decided to take A Levels in Politics, Psychology and Sociology. Sociology is my favourite A Level. I enjoy learning about why society is the way it is today. I particularly enjoyed learning about families and how family roles have evolved over time. I find doing my own research into Sociology topics interesting and rewarding. I also enjoy watching documentaries, listening to discussions, and reading books. I like the fact the issues can have lots of different interpretations. The A Level work includes discussing all the issues from different perspectives, which I also enjoy.
I am now studying Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology at university. The course covers a range of sociology and social policy issues and should open doors for me to work in a variety of roles in civil or public service.
If you want to study Sociology you need to be engaged with current affairs and with national and local politics. Read as much as you can and use the library, there are lots of relevant books and journal articles. I think doing more than one social science helps, because all the topics seem to be interwoven. I think it increases your wider knowledge if you study a mixture of social sciences at A Level.
