Welcome

Blue Coat is a well established academic Sixth Form offering a high quality of A-level teaching. We have high aspirations for all of our students based on the resolute belief that each individual should be given the chance to be everything that they can be and everything that they are meant to be.

Our exceptionally high standards and established tradition of academic achievement means that each year over 90% of our Year 13 progress to university. We are very proud of the wide range of institutions which our students access, with a third of our cohort taking up places at prestigious Russell Group universities. In addition each year several of our students are successful in securing places at Oxford and Cambridge University and universities in the USA. In recent years we have also seen a growing number of our students secure places on extremely competitive high level apprenticeships with providers such as Rolls Royce and The Home Office.

We recognise that choosing where you want to study after your GCSEs is a big decision. Sixth Form involves more than academic study; it’s a time for maturing as a young adult, and preparing for the independence and responsibilities that come with Higher Education, Advanced Apprenticeships, and careers. The choice that you make now will shape your future.

Blue Coat is an outstanding multi-faith, multi-ethnic and multi-talented Sixth Form, committed to academic excellence and the personal growth and enrichment of all our students, who leave us not only with the highest grades and qualifications, but also a CV that reflects the wide range of opportunities for personal development and leadership that our sixth form provides. Whether you are new to us or an existing Year 11 student at Blue Coat, we will build on your strengths, broaden your horizons, and support you to take responsibility for your own future and rise to the challenges, choices and opportunities that will affect the rest of your life

We have a strong reputation for success and a long history of providing exceptional education to students across Greater Manchester. We care for students whilst they are with us and we care about them once they have left. They are part of our family and a tradition that dates back to 1834

The success of our students at Blue Coat is a tribute to their hard work and self belief, supported by structures that we have put in place to ensure that every individual has the opportunity to achieve their goals.

These include:

  • Expert A-level teaching in all subjects
  • A wide range of A-level courses
  • An additional ‘Futures’ pathway designed to ensure increased breadth and skill acquisition
  • An excellent support programme for applications to university and higher level apprenticeships, which includes a comprehensive programme of support for applications to Oxbridge and early entry courses such as medicine, dentistry and veterinary science
  • Extensive leadership opportunities which include working with staff, pupils and the wider community of Oldham
  • An ethos and culture which supports our multi faith, multi ethnic, multi talented Sixth Form community
  • Dedicated pastoral support and daily interaction with an experienced Sixth Form tutor which ensures that student welfare is at the centre of all that we do.

We want all of our students to do well, but also want to ensure that your time at Blue Coat is a happy one, where you feel valued as an individual, act as a role model for our younger students and where you leave us with the necessary skills and personal qualities needed to ensure continued success.
