Personal Development

We appreciate that there are changes as you move from Year 11 into Year 12, and we want to ensure that you feel safe and secure during your time with us. Our Personal Development Programme is designed to offer support and insight into social influences which may impact on your individual wellbeing. We also support you to rise to the challenge of independent Sixth Form work, dealing with issues such as time – management, study skills and personal targets. These skills will make you a successful life-long learner.

Assembly

We are a multi-faith, multi-ethnic and multi-talented community. Collective worship takes place at least once a week, and gives all of our students time to reflect on the challenging questions that life throws up. The school’s foundation is the Church of England and that underpins our approach and values. We nurture Christian students in their faith, support students of other faiths in theirs, and offer challenge to those of no faith to consider the big questions about life, ethics and meaning.

Lectures

Our fortnightly lecture programme is an integral part of your personal development. It is an opportunity for the year group to come together and learn, from experts in their field, how to succeed both in our Sixth Form and beyond.

These sessions are delivered by the Sixth Form Team, but also often involve guest speakers from relevant areas of interest such as universities, apprenticeship providers and extra-curricular providers.

Multi Faith Chaplaincy

The chaplaincy team serves the whole school community, for students and staff of all faiths and none. Led and coordinated by Mr Ford they are based in the chaplaincy room located on the first floor of the main school building (HE25). This room is available exclusively for Sixth Form students to use for private personal prayer during lunch time.

Throughout the school year the chaplaincy team facilitates inclusive worship in the form of small group reflections, assemblies and more formal school services as we celebrate the rich and diverse faith community we have at The Blue Coat School Sixth Form.

Safeguarding

What is safeguarding and why is it so important?

Safeguarding means protecting children from harm so they can grow up happy and healthy. Safeguarding children includes:

• Protecting children from maltreatment
• Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
• Making sure children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
• Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes
