Sixth Form Facilities

Independent Learning Centre (ILC)

All students in Year 12 have 9 timetabled sessions in the ILC, providing an extra 3 hours per subject of private independent study. Year 13 have 6 timetabled sessions in the ILC. These sessions are supported through additional work/activities that are set by A Level subject teachers. The work covered during these sessions is designed to extend subject knowledge and understanding to help students develop the key skills to become an independent and self-regulating learner.

We provide laptops to use in every session and the ILC is ran by a dedicated Sixth Form Studies Support Manager.

Library

Here at The Blue Coat school we empower all our pupils to develop a passion for reading. Whether that be reading around their subjects to support with their studies, or discovering the joy of reading for pleasure where they can visit far off places and different worlds from the comfort of the library or their sofa at home. All our books are available for students to borrow, this includes relevant revision guides across the subject areas as well as a fantastic collection of both Fiction and Non-Fiction books.

Year 13 students have priority access to the school library during the school day. This is a quiet work area where students can work individually on homework and revision.

Sixth Form Mezz and JT

The Mezz is the Year 13 social area and JT is the Year 12 social area where our students can work in their spare time and both areas have facilities such as a vending machine and hot drinks machine. Both areas have a Sixth Form office where students can go to with any queries.

The Mezz and JT are open from 8am and students are welcome to stay after the school day has ended up until 5pm.

Restaurant

The Restaurant opens from 8am and serves delicious breakfasts and hot drinks. Lunch is served from 12:30pm and has a selection of fresh choices that change daily. More information can be found here. The Restaurant can also be used by Sixth Form students for group work and discussion when not in use during lunchtimes.
